Advent
Our community group this year will be listening to various podcasts and focusing on the meditation and reflection sparked by those podcasts. If you’d like to follow along with us, you can check out my notes here on the blog each week.
December 13th
Last night was our final Cgroup gathering for 2016. Well, not counting our 10th annual Cgroup fondue party this Saturday. We got a bit off-schedule with Thanksgiving so this was our week for working our way through a meditation together. We used sections of the Liturgists liturgy “A Light” to guide us through the evening.
First we listened to two songs…
“Oh Light” by Gungor & All Sons and Daughters
“O Come, O Come, Immanuel” by Sleeping at Last
Then we listened did a guided imaginative reading of the birth of Jesus as recorded in the book of Luke:
And we closed out the night with “Joy to the World” by The Brilliance
Before starting our meditation we spent some time coloring doves to send to Soulforce for the altar they are creating as part of their memorial to the people killed at Pulse last June. The living altar will first stand at the national Creating Change conference in Philly and then they will take it on the road as they seek to nonviolently protest and aggravate for justice and equity for folks across all marginalized racial, sexual, and gender identities.
It is particularly important for us, the Church, to not only condemn what happened in Orlando but to also acknowledge that we are part of what led to such a shooting in the first place. And not a small part. A big part. Coloring these doves was a small step, a small gesture, to be sure, but it’s a start in what will hopefully turn into even more concrete action for us as a group. If you want to color some doves, all you have to do is print off the sheet, grab your markers, cut them out and mail them in. Join us!
